This session presents evidence-based approaches to osteomyelitis management in podiatric practice, challenging conventional treatment protocols and examining the scientific foundation for therapeutic decision-making. Attendees will gain practical guidance on antibiotic selection—comparing oral versus intravenous options—and evaluating surgical versus medical management strategies to optimize patient outcomes in infectious bone disease.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this activity, participants will be able to:

Appreciate that the treatment of osteomyelitis may not necessitate the use of 6 weeks of intravenous therapy.

Understand the scientific evidence behind the use of oral antibiotics over intravenous.

Compare the evidence looking at surgical vs. non-surgical (medical) therapy for osteomyelitis.
