ABPM Certification Explored: Podiatric Dermatology Review
This activity helps clinicians distinguish common plantar and foot dermatoses, with attention to the overlapping features of tinea pedis, psoriasis, and contact dermatitis. Participants will apply targeted diagnostic testing to confirm cutaneous infections and separate them from inflammatory and neoplastic mimics, then build evidence-based management plans for skin and nail conditions such as onychomycosis and plantar warts.
Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, participants will be able to:
Recognize and differentiate common plantar and foot dermatoses, including the overlapping features of tinea pedis, psoriasis, contact dermatitis, etc.
Apply appropriate diagnostic testing to confirm cutaneous foot infections and distinguish them from inflammatory and neoplastic mimics.
Formulate evidence-based management plans for common foot skin and nail conditions, including tinea pedis, onychomycosis, plantar warts, etc.
About Dr. Vlahovic
As the first podiatric physician in the U.S. to complete a fellowship in podiatric dermatology, Dr. Tracey C. Vlahovic has dedicated her career to advancing this unique subspecialty. Over the past two decades, she has educated healthcare providers on lower extremity skin conditions, conducted clinical trials, authored hundreds of articles, blogs, and book chapters, published multiple textbooks, and spoken at medical conferences across the U.S. and Europe. Her background bridges podiatric medicine and dermatology, enabling her to serve as a clinical consultant and thought leader for the pharmaceutical and medical device industries.
As a Clinical Professor, Dr. Vlahovic is actively involved in patient care and in the education of medical students and residents. Her work has been recognized with numerous honors, including Clinician of the Year, Professor of the Year, and Teacher of the Year, along with awards and honorary lectures from various state podiatric societies. She was the first female U.S. podiatric physician elected as a Fellow of the Faculty of Podiatric Medicine at the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow. She also serves on the Board of Trustees for the Council for Nail Disorders.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Vlahovic is a passionate amateur ballroom dancer who has competed in, and won, numerous Pro/Am competitions in the International Latin Division across the U.S. since 1996.
